synthesis rates...? synthesis suggestions? or rather something else? is there a more appropriate word for "Messungen" other than measurement or measure? Would reading be better? TIA!
"Diese Systeme umfassen Untersuchungen mit bakteriellen Mutanten, denen bestimmte Enzyme des Nukleisäurestoffwechsels fehlen, Messungen von DNS, RNS und Protein incl. ihrer Syntheseraten."

synthesis rates, assays or measurements
1) synthesis rates (or synthesis reaction rates)
2) depends on what is being measured. If it is the amount contained in the sample, use assay. If IR/UV spectroscopy etc. = measurement. Analysis is another possibility.

synthesis rates; assessment/measurement
Regarding the first one I sure; eg.: Full text of the article, 'Insulin's effect on synthesis rates of liver proteins...
Regarding "Messungen" I would use "measurement", but you may also use "assessment" althought an assessment may include more than measurements; eg.: Asperger's Syndrome: Guidelines for Assesment and Diagnosis...
