Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Oct 22, 2004:
werteverzehr - context I take the point but (a) can't for confidentiality reasons and (b) the full sentence does not help, it doesn't provide any context. The only general context is that this concerns the oil industry, so that the land loses value due to the usage conditions

RobinB Oct 22, 2004:
Could we please have some more context, i.e. the type of document and the entire sentence. Thanks.

In this context, better to say: loss of value

-> In current form, the bill reads that compensation to the split-estate surface owner will be considered on the basis of \"loss of production in income, loss of land value and loss of value of improvements caused by the oil and gas operations.\"

agree Lys Nguyen : thanks

disagree Steve Yates : also my first thought, but depreciation does not usually apply to land - I would suggest 'loss of value'

True. I'll add a note, thanks!
agree Derek Gill Franßen : Yes, "loss of land value" receives more hits (337), as opposed to "depreciation in land value" (21) or "depreciation of land value" (56), but I think all three would work just fine (taking into account the meager context provided). :-)
