neutral Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) : yes but profit sharing and share of profits is not the same. THe dictionary is RIGHT. It does not specify usage. P en b is profit sharing when EMPLOYEES get profits..but in ACCOUNTING, it's share of profits. Usage is what counts.

Equity in earnings of consolidated companies

In Mexican Spanish, the above term would be "participación en resultados de compañías consolidadas".
"Participación en resultados" in Mexico is "Equity in earnings or loss" if there happens to be a loss. This was explained to me by an American manager at Arthur Andersen when assigned to Mexico City years ago. Hope this helps.

Share [or portion] of profits from companies consolidated by the equity method

this is the share of profits NOT profit sharing..that's something else...this company has a share or portion of the profits from the other companies..but profits are not shared.

EMPLOYEES OF A COMPANY:
Does your company have a profit-sharing plan?
We, we do we have profit sharing.

ACCOUNTING
share of profits [a portion of, a percentage of] allocated to x

both these terms are the same in SPANISH...Not in English. Is that clearer? In accounting profit sharing refers to the plan a company has to give share some percentage of profits with the employees. On the balance sheet, it would appear as Profit sharing plan or Profit share...

With regard to owning a stake in or having an interest in another company\'s profits..in accounting, one says share of profits...
