New Company Flyer
"Die zuverlässige Vernetzung der spezifischen ***Unternehmensschwerpunkte*** ermöglicht zusammen mit der flexiblen, dynamischen und auftragsabhängigen Zusammenstellung der Projektteams eine optimale Abwicklung unterschiedlichster Aufträge."
From a flyer about a new group of companies that make models and tools. For some reason, I don't really like the usual translations of Schwerpunkt here. I wonder about something like "main activities", actually. TIA for your help.

core activities (or main activities) of the company
I'm not sure about "disciplines" or "competences" here - in the context they sound a little strange. For example I don't know whether disciplines or competences can really be "vernetzt", unless it's some kind of management-speak.
How about simply using your own suggestion, or "core activities"? Either of them should work and as far as I can tell it's exactly what's meant here.
Hope it helps,
Croc

Comment: "It was a close-run thing between "core activities" and "key areas of expertise" for me, but after some more research, I've decided to go with "core activities". So thanks Croc, commiserations Ian and thanks also to the rest of you who helped me make some sense of this word. Appreciate everyone's assistance."

main/key areas of expertise
Personally, I think people who use "competence" and - horror of horrors - "competences" should be beaten repeatedly on the head with a hardback copy of the Oxford English Dictionary, but hey, that's just my humble opinion ...
I would go for "main/key areas of expertise" here, Rowan. Possibly losing the "specific" in the process.

The reliable networking of the companies' diverse areas of emphasis
A bit wordy, but it fits well into the general hyprbolic tone of your context.

You could use \"integration\" in lieu of \"networking.\"
