French term

condensat de signalement

French to English Medical Medical (general) Error report
Context:
An error report and this heading is followed by long alpha-numeric string.
My own idea would be Condensed report.
Confirmation or otherwise would be appreciated.
TIA Chris.

Discussion

Bashiqa (asker) Oct 9, 2023:
@ Daryo Thanks for the correction.
Daryo Oct 9, 2023:
BTW A1EE1F43928F99EE27FE0739A3A97E789CCF5D1A37DE3AF80AD84227E1A3FF65

is not an alphanumerical string - it's a hexadecimal number.
Bashiqa (asker) Oct 6, 2023:
@ Bourth I came across that pretty picture yesterday so with Samuel`s comment and yours "Hash" would be a distinct possibility As the text had to be delivered yesterday I opted for "Summary" I`ll let the client know and see if I get any feedback Thank you, Chris
Bourth Oct 5, 2023:
(message) digest 'Digest' (something condensed, or short, unlike the intestinal tract) looks to me like a more logico-reasonable translation of condensat (something condensed) than other proposals seen here so far.
"Une fonction de hachage (parfois appelée fonction de condensation) est une fonction permettant d'obtenir un condensé (appelé aussi condensat ou haché ou en anglais message digest) d'un texte, c'est-à-dire une suite de caractères assez courte représentant le texte qu'il condense"
https://web.maths.unsw.edu.au/~lafaye/CCM/crypto/signature.h...

Though it seems 'hash' also works:
En ayant le condensât ( " hash " ou " checksum ", ou " message digest ") il doit très difficile de retrouver les données initiales,
https://www.cryptosec.org/?Fonctions-de-condensation

Nearly forgot the pretty picture:

Samuël Buysschaert Oct 5, 2023:
@Bashiqa Thanks for the string with 64 characters if i counted that right :),
indeed that looks like an hash value and with the context provided, my best guess then would be "hash ...", there are other ways to name it, but that would be what i'd use as it is pretty common and concise. //
Bashiqa (asker) Oct 5, 2023:
@ Samuel This is the string: A1EE1F43928F99EE27FE0739A3A97E789CCF5D1A37DE3AF80AD84227E1A3FF65
so cryptography might have something to do with it.
Samuël Buysschaert Oct 5, 2023:
I'm thinking more like "condensat" as used in cryptography some kind of "hash code/value" that would explain the long alpha-numeric string.
Renate Radziwill-Rall Oct 5, 2023:
"condensé" would be the term probably a machine translation
Bashiqa (asker) Oct 5, 2023:
@ Sue Medication error report. An error on the packaging.

Another valid possibility is "message digest" proposed by Bourth (but not just "digest"), especially in connection with RIPEMD-160 and now-obsolete MD5 hash functions, in which MD stands for "message digest" indeed.

Thanks
agree Johannes Gleim : Looks like a fingerprint, depending on the origin and the purpose

Thanks
agree Daryo : A distinct possibility - confirmed by the actual value of this "condensat de signalement"

Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : That would the human readable file - "condensat de signalement" would be the hash of that digital file, a meaningless hexadecimal number - kind of "checksum" used to verify the integrity of the file - not the same.
