Portuguese term

EAD

Portuguese to English Medical Medical (general)
The term is from a Discharge Report for a patient admitted to the hospital with post traumatic hematoma and grade 2 pressure ulcer.
The full heading in the report is "EAD e tratamentos relevantes", the relevant treatment being "drenagem cirurgica do hematoma pos-traumatico..."

Discussion

philgoddard Oct 2, 2023:
Could it mean procedures, such as imaging?
philgoddard Oct 2, 2023:
Could the D be diagnose or diagnóstico?

I can't quite visualise what the report says. Are you saying the relevant treatment section has been completed but the EAD hasn't? Is the heading part of a template that has to be filled in for every patient? In other words, is EAD likely to mean something like diagnosis or management, rather than the name of a condition?

osteoarthritis; degenerative articulation disease

In my understanding, the report used an English acronym, which stands for "early degenerative disease".

EAD: (Spanish) Enfermedad articular degenerativa / Enfermedad autosómica dominante https://glosarios.servidor-alicante.com/siglas-medicas/ead

2.2 Doença articular degenerativa (DAD
(...)
A doença articular degenerativa (DAD) acomete diversas espécies animais (MAY, 1996) inclusive o homem (DENNY & BUTTERWORTH, 2006).

Considerando as estruturas envolvidas, a patogênese e o diagnóstico VEIGA (2006) propõe três classificação. DAD tipo I, associada à sinovites e capsulites DAD tipo II, secundária a fraturas, injúrias no osso subcondral, artrite infecciosa
e lesões ligamentares e, DAD tipo III onde se observa erosão não progressiva da cartilagem articular. https://files.cercomp.ufg.br/weby/up/67/o/Seminário_final.pd...

Example Sentence

Osteoarthritis is also called degenerative articulation disease, degenerative arthritis and arthritis to wear. https://www.imedpub.com/articles/risk-factors-of-osteoarthri...
Peer comment(s):

disagree philgoddard : This doesn't fit the context - the patient has a post-traumatic hematoma and a pressure ulcer. And you've given three answers: early degenerative disease (which would be EDD), enfermedad articular degenerativa, and enfermedad autosómica degenerativa.

painful adverse event

EA is a common abbreviation for "evento adverso" or adverse event. The D adds on "doloroso" or painful.

Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : I don't think so. Adverse events usually relate to drugs or other treatments. Evento adverso doloroso doesn't get any hits.

Upper GI Endoscopy/EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy

not sure if it fits the context exactly, but a medical term for EAD is "Endoscopia Digestiva Alta"

So an Upper GI Endoscopy or EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
Peer comment(s):

disagree philgoddard : It doesn't fit the context, and the abbreviation would be EDA, not EAD.

thanks
neutral philgoddard : I don't think this fits the context either - it's not about a device trial.

anestesia epidural

Just a thought in the context. Not a particulary common abbreviation but it might just fit here
Peer comment(s):

neutral liz askew : How to you reach this conclusion from "EAD" in Portuguese?

Adverse Device Event / Evento adverso do dispositivo

According to the symptoms diagnosed in the report, EAD (adversary device Event) is a prophylactic attitude prior to prescribed treatment as mentioned.

Evento Adverso da Drenagem

Como você explicou que o tratamento relevante é "drenagem cirúrgica...", creio que o D em EAD se refira a isso. Assim, a sigla ficaria "DAE"
