Spanish term

huevos brotados

Spanish to English Other Livestock / Animal Husbandry Egg production - hatcheries
SPAIN. From a description of how eggs are processed at the hatchery. I'm not sure what they mean here. Online searches are suggesting "sprouted eggs" which usually turns out to mean some kind of recipe with sprouts (like beansprouts rather than Brussels) and eggs.

"Solemos hacer una clasificación aquí más selectiva y quitamos los huevos que no estén en buenas condiciones. Los huevos infértiles dependen de la madre, pero supondría un 15-17%. Contamos con un 2% de huevos brotados. "

Closing the query Thanks to everyone who helped out on this query. Verbatims can be a minefield...

Solution I'm using "poppers" (exploded eggs), as that is the term used by the end client.
neilmac (asker) Aug 9, 2023:
Client says: En el cuestionario original en inglés a los brotados le llamaban “poppers” ... Which to me looks as if it refers to the eggs which have exploded (apparently this happens quite often).
neilmac (asker) Aug 9, 2023:
FWIW I've just asked the client for their opinion on the use of "brotar/sprout".
neilmac (asker) Aug 9, 2023:
@slothm It's a more specific defect, where the embryo begins to form.

Huevos brotados En la siguiente pg. web encontrarás todo lo referente a los defectos que pueden tener los huevos en la producción comercial.
Detalla el autor que los huevos defectuosos se encuentran alrededor del 2%.
Creo que es tu caso.

Approximately 2% of all chicken eggs has some defect, ranging from minor, barely noticeable faults to downright alarming deformities. So the chances are pretty good that most, if not all flock owners will at some stage find an irregular egg.

sprouted eggs

"Sprouted" refers to the process of a seed or plant beginning to grow and emerge from its dormant state. It involves the initial stages of growth, where the seed sends out shoots or roots. In the context of eggs, the term "sprouted" might refer to eggs that have started to develop embryonic growth, which is not desirable in most cases.
Note from asker:
I agree with your take. It just seems odd that they don't have a better word than sprouted/brotado.

Hatching eggs

Eggs don't " sprout", they hatch.
Note from asker:
Fair enough, but that would be "eclosionados". The meaning here is more precise, referring to the moment the embryo starts to form.
