English term

wing tip

English to French Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Tyres
This is for automotive/tyres, there is a list of all parts of a tyre (tread, walls, etc.) and "wing tip" that comes into the list and that I cannot locate in any tyre specific site.

épaule ou épaulement. Il semble que ce terme puisse être synonyme, quoique peu fréquemment utilisé, du terme "shoulder"

CL3 only as there is some slight difference: "épaulement" seems to be the whole of the "side" of the top layer, while the "wing-tip" looks like only the edge of the top layer, at the contact with the side of the tyre.

Details of the invention

A carbon black containing rubber cement composition is being applied to the outer surface of a tyre from the wing-tip ending to the centre of the tread on one side of the tyre. Therefore, the static electric charge is conducted from the wingtip to the road contact area of tread.

It does look like a sort of "wingtip", when you look at the cross-section of the tyre.
