Italian term

saponetta

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting jewellery
I'm translating a catalogue for a firm that makes jewellery, in particular medals, bracelets, pendants.
There is a whole section dedicated to "saponette", they are tiny, weighing 3.20 g.
Some are just polished, others undergo different processing.
They are all more or less rectangular with rounded edges like a bar of soap.
So do I call them "soap-bar" as somebody suggested here in another context?
Or has anyone any bright ideas?

thanks!

Alexandra Speirs (asker) Apr 5, 2023:
oblong I looked up "rectangle with rounded edges" and it came up with "oblong" which might suit because basically I need a shape. They are all oblong in shape with various patterns or textures.

Can you see what they might be used for? Good luck charms, maybe to go on a bracelet? That may be the purpose of the stones in my example.
Alexandra Speirs (asker) Apr 5, 2023:
the ones I am translating are in 14 Kt gold, some have crucifixes or other decorations

These are polished stones rather than jewelry, and listed under "pietre della salute".

oblong tag

The shape you provide in the picture is the exact shape of a dog tag or ID tag.
If you don't want to use the word soap you could use the generic 'tag' and add the shape (oblong/rectangular/square etc.) to distinguish the different pendants in the catalogue with variations of this shape.

for example,

oblong rounded tag
rectangular tag

The pendants shown in this site actually use 'dog tag' but I'd prefer the other suggestions above

Note from asker:
I had already decided on oblong myself, without tag (see discussion entry). The subdivisions in the catalogue are based on shape, so oblong / round / rectangular and so on

OK, in that case rectangular charms. Rectangles can have rounded corners:

The one on the right in your text is also a rectangle, but folded into a wavy shape.
Note from asker:
Thanks, but I think this is too generic. In the catalogue there are countless other "charms" of all shapes: signs of the zodiac, animals, tennis racquets, baby feet.... We need something that hints at the shape.
The catalogue has pages of "charms", round, half-round, triangular and so on, what we need here is a definition of the shape.
Peer comment(s):

agree Kimberly Wastler : Charm is the correct translation for the picture you provided. ID or Medical ID charm if it can be engraved with that info. Other picturesque adjectives can be added - rectangle, pendant, etc.

le "saponette" dalle mie parti (distretto orafo di Vicenza) sono queste, ben visibili soprattutto nel secondo e terzo link

nelle pagine EN tradotte con soaps o soap bars
dal momento che possono avere varie forme, propongo "soaps"

saponetta: si tratta di un termine coniato dai maestri orafi e pertanto, secondo me, può enissimo essere tradotto alla lettera, come fanno loro nei propri siti
Note from asker:
Thanks, we are in the same district, but I just don't trust "soap bars", it doesn't convince me as an English speaker.
