[reduction in biological tests, radiological imaging and] instrumental examination
To be understood "on the patient" . To me it means the protocol provides for fewer instrumental examinations and other tests/explorations as time progresses (bilan is what you get after an evaluation, the final results of your tests and explorations)

: I don't believe "bilan" has anything to do with money. I think "allègement" is most likely to mean "simplification".

It could mean both but the result would certainly result in decreased medical costs.

The importance of instrumental exam
The SNF administrator has hesitant to do the test, but the results quickly changed their mind as to the importance of properly diagnosing dysphagia with instrumental tools. Now the SLP can modify diet, educate the patient and staff on strategies, and provide appropriate skilled therapy based on these results!
As clinicians, we can become savvy at identifying patients that may or may not have a swallowing disorder based on a bedside. But as you are well aware, none of us are born with x-ray vision, hence the need for a comprehensive instrumental examination! How do we know what the problem is, what strategies to use, which diet is optimal, and what to focus our treatment on until we perform a VFSS?

Discussion
Thanks for all your help with this.
Just wanted to let you know that after a long discussion with the author we chose "diagnostic assessment" as "instrumental assessment" is mainly associated with dysphagia.
The author came back to me and he confirmed that "bilan instrumental" has nothing to do with the instrumentation. The examples he gave me are Echocardiogram and Pulmonary function tests. I also found later in the text that some patients undergo panoramic dental X-rays...
Unfortunately he does not mention it anywhere else. He does mention "bilan diététique", "EFR", "bilan infectieux."
I will ask the author for more clarifications.
By the way, Joanna, you're confusing "less" and "fewer" - don't do this in your translation :-)
ERAS pathway's main goal is to minimize hospital length of stay and improve patient satisfaction. It is also known to decrease hospital costs. In order to do this they perform less exams before, during and after surgery. Consequently I think "allégé" here means performing less tests but I am not sure how to the "bilan instrumental" fits in. Could it be the type of instrumentation used?
INSTRUMENTATION AND ROD PLACEMENT
To correct your scoliosis curve, your surgeon will implant a rod to straighten and stabilize the curve of your spine. They will typically use instrumentation (hooks, screws, and wires) to create “connection points” that allow the rod to be securely attached to your spine.
FUSION
These are bullet points for an ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) protocol.
From my understanding they are recommending performing less laboratory tests, radiologic exams and ....
Is this the heading, or a bullet point in the list? Can you give us some of the surrounding text?
