French term

DCS

French to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
I'm trying to find the correct meaning for this acronym which comes in the following phrase:

"Nous avons enfin obtenu l’officialisation de la désignation d’XXXX en tant que DSC CGT."

I understand that CGT is short for "Confédération générale du travail" but I'm struggling a bit with DSC. I have found "Directeur des services à la clientèle" but am not sure that it fits in with CGT.

Any input appreciated.

No You can only squash the question and repost. But best to make sure this doesn't go into the glossary unamended.
Paul Stevens (asker) Feb 28, 2023:
@ philgoddard: The acronym queried by me is DSC, so the answers are appropriate. Apologies for my typo in the question header. It doesn't appear that I can amend this in the question.
philgoddard Feb 28, 2023:
Your question header reads DCS, but the text says DSC.

central union delegate

https://www.worker-participation.eu/national-industrial-rela... under Workplace Representation:

Trade union delegates (DS) have rights to paid time-off. The amount varies with the size of the plant or company: 50 to 150 employees – 12 hours a month; 151 to 499 employees – 18 hours a month; 500 employees or more – 24 hours a month. In companies with 2,000 or more employees, unions which are representative within the company can designate a central union delegate (DSC). He or she has the right to 24 hours paid hours’ time off a month, irrespective of the size of the plant in which he or she is employed. Trade union delegates, including central union delegates, are also able to use their time off outside the company, for example in industry-level negotiations and meetings. They have a right to meet employees during working time, provided this does not cause significant harm, and to leave the company in the course of their activities.

agree AllegroTrans : Good answer but I would be inclined to keep the French term and add this in square brackets as there is no direct equivalent in UK. "Shop steward" is vaguely equivalent.

Thanks - depends on the purpose of the text, as it can become cumbersome for the reader adding French terms.

Reference:

role of "DS" and "DSC" in a "syndicat"

The role of the DSC in unions is outlined on the Ministère de l'Intérieur webpage, https://www.demarches.interieur.gouv.fr/particuliers/delegue...

Here are a couple of references:

Délégué syndical central

Dans une entreprise ayant au moins 2 établissements de 50 salariés chacun, chaque syndicat représentatif peut désigner un DS central différent des délégués syndicaux d'établissement.

Délégué syndical central

Le délégué syndical central dispose d'un crédit de 24 heures par mois.

Si le délégué syndical central est déjà délégué syndical d'établissement son crédit d'heures est porté à 24 heures au maximum.

And for the term being used specifically, Foncia explains the purpose of the different roles (RS, DS, DSC) within their company structure here: https://cftc-foncia.fr/le-role-des-rs-ds-et-dsc/
