Los invasores mongoles (1271-1368) confiaban en la medicina musulmana y fueron acompañados por médicos persas, quienes dieron a conocer el látex de opio. Estos médicos eran conscientes de los riesgos de la droga, por lo que la usaban de manera moderada y solo en casos extremos, prefiriendo recetar adormidera en las demás situaciones
