I'm having a hard time trying to understand what Terry Thomas is saying from 23:15 until 23:23.

I've listened to these lines over and over, and I can't understand the whole phrases.

Please, try to help me on this!

@ Daniel And if you do have another word or mumbling sound you could use in the target language, you would need to convey the character of a high-class, high-ranking army major of this period - i.e. very British, very posh and accustomed to being charge of everyone !

@ Daniel I think this actor is sending up (mocking/parodying) the high class English accent associated with high ranking army majors of that period, and was probably aware he was not making himself understood - i.e. British film humour at work. Therefore, for the parts we cannot decipher, you could always use this type of comedy element in your own target language if possible.. Maybe there is something similar you can use to hide the inaudible parts?.

Lara, I only have to find out these lines in order to finish the subtitles. All the rest of the film I've already translated all the lines into Portuguese (because I live in Brazil). I've never had so much trouble understanding the lines of Terry Thomas as in this film!

The first part "sitting there" proceeds something that I cannot catch properly, but he is definitely saying "one of the natives in distress"

Possibly "Listen there", but could still be "sitting there" - difficult to tell, but he is not speaking like he wants to be understood anyway.

Could be "see there", but the style is gabbled intentionally so as to really show the aristocratic status of this major or whatever he is I think. So maybe when you translate you could use a similar ploy for the parts that are not well-spoken.
