Change log

Oct 12, 2022 11:33: Yana Dovgopol changed "Vetting" from "Needs Vetting" to "Vet OK"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Steffen Walter, philgoddard, Astrid Elke Witte

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

philgoddard Oct 12, 2022:
Never mind andres-larsen's reference appears to be from the same context, or something very similar. But please do provide the context if you post any more questions.
philgoddard Oct 12, 2022:
Hello! Please provide as much context as possible, including the surrounding text. Otherwise your question is difficult to answer.

Rumpf often implies something left behind.

Places where there is a PartOf relationship in the object model. The assumption here is that if an object consists of further sub-objects, these sub-objects are typically candidates for outsourcing. Applications or parts of applications often access objects at different granularity levels. In one application, for example, you are only interested in which object it is. The sub-objects of this object are only of interest for editing the object (e.g. in an editor). Only then is this partial data accessed. - ***An object hull remains in the source file in the form of a swap reference.*** This ensures that references to the outsourced object are no different from other object references. It does not have to be known at the origin of the reference that the target object is an outsourced object. The swapped object is stored as a whole in the swap file. This has the following advantages:

neutral philgoddard : I have a feeling this is a mistranslation, but it's useful to have the German.

residual object

I think the idea is that data is being migrated somewhere else, but a marker is left in its original position to show that it used to be there.

Since this is German software, there won't be a definitive English translation and you can call this what you like. One meaning of Rumpf is "residual", cognate with the English "rump", I suggest "residual object".
