Hecho de los mexicanos

Spanish to English Marketing Idioms / Maxims / Sayings US SPANISH
I've asked to translate the hashtag #HechoDeLosMexicanos, used by the Mexican National Team (soccer.)

Any Mexicans in da house?

I have no idea of what that means. I direct translation would be "made from Mexicans." I suspect it means "made by Mexicans" but I must be sure.

Discussion

George Rabel (asker) Aug 24, 2022:
@abe(L)solano I appreciate the reference. If I had opted for using the literal translation, I could have used it to justify my choice.
abe(L)solano Aug 18, 2022:
George Rabel (asker) Aug 16, 2022:
Made by Mexicans I opted for "Made by Mexicans" with a note saying that a literal translation would not work. Thanks to all.
AllegroTrans Aug 14, 2022:
Made of Mexicans... ...the Mexican national soccer team. What explanation is needed?
Barbara Cochran, MFA Aug 13, 2022:
End of? If this was my client, I would offer at least some detail or short explanation to help her or him understand what's behind the idea that is being expressed to promote the team in question, rather than just resort to literalness.
AllegroTrans Aug 13, 2022:
@ Barbara Unless I am mistaken, George is not looking for a creative hashtag for use by the soccer team, simply a functional translation. He has already said the translation is not for publication, but just for some non Spanish native-speaking client to understand. End of.
Barbara Cochran, MFA Aug 13, 2022:
Interesting Article On Hashtags Goes into detail about using them for business (like a sports team) promotion, and how it is important to avoid creating ones that are overly vague or general: https://techjury.net/blog/what-is-hashtag/#gref
Barbara Cochran, MFA Aug 13, 2022:
Don't Agree With AT The branding of sports teams is very important to their owners, who make billions off the athletic prowess of professional team members. Therefore, I would go for a creative solution, and not the literal one, which, IMO, would not generate much interest on the part of ticket-purchasing fans.
AllegroTrans Aug 13, 2022:
So IMO All you need is a literal translation. Some more fanciful suggestions have been put forward but the purpose of the translation isn't to copywrite a new English hashtag for the Mexican national soccer team.
George Rabel (asker) Aug 12, 2022:
@AllegroTrans I agree. It is not really a translation that is going to be published. It is intended for the client's reviewers who do not understand Spanish but want to know what's being said.
AllegroTrans Aug 12, 2022:
Translate a hashtag... and it is no longer a hashtag. If this is in a document for translation you should leave it unaltered. A translation purely "for understanding" is OK of course, but that needs to be made clear
Juan Jacob Aug 12, 2022:
Strange... ..."hecho" also could mean "fact"... no idea. We'll wait.

Made of Mexicans

You will also find "made from Mexicans" but that sounds more like a cannibal's taco.

LOOK: Mexican national team unveils a new logo for ...https://www.cbssports.com › soccer › news › look-mexi.
The Mexican Football Federation has unveiled a new logo that will be used as the new badge for the men's and women's national teams. Presented along with the new slogan, "Made of Mexicans," the new logo aims to bring Mexican soccer into the modern age while also adapting the image of their national team. The shift in identity is needed as Mexican soccer has been under scrutiny as of late for unsavory chants as opposed to their play on the field.

neutral Juan Jacob : OK, the slogan, but waht about the #?

Was it in the question?
agree AllegroTrans : Yes, but a hashtag cannot be translated - it will no longer work as a hashtag if it is! But I agree on a literal translation - no need to get poetic.

Quite! Thanks!
neutral philgoddard : But why does it say LOS Mexicanos?

Thank you!
neutral abe(L)solano : no. Precisamente fue una mala traducción del hashtag la de la página de CBS sports. Se refiere a los "hechos históricos" mexicanos; compara los éxitos de las selecciones masculina, femenina y subs con ese tipo de eventos.

Mexican through and through

Sorry George I am not Mexican and am putting a low confidence level on this but I think it sounds better than a direct translation.

This is the thinking behind the phrase:

Let's wait for some Mexican football supporters.....

agree abe(L)solano : Yes, thanks for the research - although proposed & used by the Federación Mexicana de Futbol, I think the hashtag doesn't sound well in Spanish and also doesn't make sense https://twitter.com/miseleccionmx?lang=es

Born and Bred In Mexico

Meaning that the members of the team are, although I suppose it's possible that one or more of them have not been. Kind of reminds me of Bruce Springsteen's classic American chauvinist tune, "Born in the USA".

"bred", in this case, would mean brought up in a way that makes one turn out to be strong and powerful

Sorry, the "I" should be lower case.

agree abe(L)solano : that's what the FMF wants to convey (very poorly with such hashtag, in my opinion, but yes!)

'Any Mexicans in da house?..' Exceptionally, Mexico is not one of my countries, so I cannot add '.. en mi país (originario o adoptivo de gringo)...'

Let us pray that the Mexican national soccer team is not again overshadowed by the Colombian and Uruguyan Latin American teams in general, nor Argenina or Brazil in particular.

Example sentence:

The golden touch ball definitely challenges the players, and when used properly can improve their understanding and execution of their first touch. .
