The UK’s central government (sometimes referred to as Whitehall) is made up of different thematic government departments, such as Health and Social Care, Transport, and Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

The local government system is divided into a two tier system (where localities have a county council covering a large area and a district council covering a smaller area); and a one tier system (where only one type of council operates in that area).
