Spanish term

actividades deportivas de carácter extensivo.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with the translation of 'actividades deportivas de carácter extensivo'. I'm not sure how to translate 'de carácter extensivo'. The context is a norm referring to a protected woodland area in Spain, called the 'Montes de Málaga', and the type of sporting activities that are banned within this area. This is part of the regulation:

En los Montes de Málaga estará prohibido cualquier uso que pueda alterar las
condiciones naturales o paisajísticas del ámbito o producir riesgos de erosión
y, en especial, las actividades deportivas de carácter extensivo.

Hola

If you conduct an advanced google search using boolean operators you will hit 8 results only containing the exact sentence "actividades deportivas de carácter extensivo". This clearly means that Ayuntamiento del Rincon de la Victoria is using a term that isn't commonplace. In my eyes, they've made it up, which is sadly not an uncommon practice by the Spanish Authorities.
The problem here is that the source language has not been phrased correctly.

They could have said: queda prohibido cualquier actividad, en especial de carácter deportivo, que pueda alterar las condiciones naturales o paisajísticas del entorno.

In sports, you could talk about "entrenamiento extensivo" or about "método continuo extensivo", but this is specific to sport sciences, so it's not not what they mean. I would question the source language, but what they mean is activities that may have a negative impact on the protected natural environment, surroundings and landscape. In my eyes, it is redundant, as they also mention "queda prohibido cualquier uso que pueda alterar las condiciones naturales o paisajísticas del ámbito"

I hope this helps.

in this article, the Spanish Ministry of Ecology refers to "deporte extensivo" too. As an example, they mention "golf"

They are referring to sports that take too much place, in a way "agressive to the protected surroundings in a visual or physical manner"

"Además a este mayor consumo de agua se suma la aparición del modelo resort en el que la urbanización dispersa se asocia a instalaciones de deporte extensivo con gran consumo de agua como son los campos de golf"

agree Taña Dalglish : https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/export/drupaljda/10_05_norma... (see page numbered 35 bottom right for exact context provided). Your observations are correct, IMO. Golf is one of the activities allowed though (page 41 (g); speaks to campos de golf.

Spanish term (edited): actividades deportivas de carácter extensivo

high-impact sporting events

The term seems clearly to refer to sports activities that have a high (adverse) impact on the venues where they occur.
