Typically, the HP vessels are partially equipped with a loose liner construction and a welded-in flange face solid ring.
For relevant construction details, consult the construction drawings of the HP vessels.
From practice it is known that the fixed liner welds and the protective sealing ring welds are the most critical parts with respect to potential leakages due to weld defects (slag inclusions, fusion defects, undercuts, worm holes) or to the way in which the liner is applied.
The welds between the liner and the carbon steel vessel cannot be tested non-destructively, and therefore will not be tested 100%.
Per liner compartment two (2) leak detection holes, protruding the carbon steel wall of the equipment, are connected to the leak detection passageways which are machined in the inner carbon steel shell along the welded seams of the liner.
For every protective sealing ring two (2) leak detection holes, also protruding the carbon steel wall of the equipment, are connected to the leak detection passageways in the inner carbon steel shell.
