Spanish term

la acostaban en una cama de paja,

Non-PRO Spanish to English Other Poetry & Literature Literature.
I would like to know the best translation of this phrase from Latin American Spanish into American English. Translator colleagues from Spain, feel free to send me your suggestions as well. Is okay to translate it as Is okay to translate it as they were putting her in a bed of straw?

This is from the story about The hen that laid the golden eggs of Aesop and Félix María de Samaniego

Here is the full paragraph:

La llevaban todos los días hasta la hierba verde que crecía ¡unto al estanque del pueblo, y todas las noches la acostaban en una cama de paja, en un rincón caliente de la cocina. No pasaba mañana sin que apareciera un huevo de oro.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

they tucked her up for the night in a bed of straw

A thought that comes to mind tht as it feels a little more literary. Slightly hesitant as technically a hen wouldn't be tucked up in bed, but think it captures a little of the fact that she would be precious to them because of the eggs.

I'm tempted to say on a bed of straw, except that we usually say tuck up IN bed.

tucked her up for the night in her straw nest also works for me if that's preferred, though bed is what's usually associated with tucking up.

By "cama", they probably meant "straw nest". As for acostarse, well, that´s easy too...
