French term

Nb F

French to English Other Education / Pedagogy
This is in a relevé des notes / transcript for baccalauréat taken at uni in Senegal.

It is in the part with the candidate's details:

Nb F : 2
Sexe: M
Nationalité : SN
Etab ; EMS

I believe that Nb = Nombre
"F" could be "fondamental"
If so, what would this "Basic no." actually refer to?

If not do you have any idea what this abbreviation stands for?

Discussion

Elizabeth Niklewska (asker) Oct 6, 2021:
What I did in the translation I think both suggestions are distinct possibilities, but none of us are sure, so I have put the suggestions in a translator's note, so that the cert. holder can inform the agency if they have the relevant info re. the meaning of "F". Thanks for your help, but I feel I can't award points, due to our uncertainty. I wish we could award 1 point each for helpful suggestions.

Here is the formatted version:
Nb F : 2 Sexe: M
Nationalité : SN

Proposed translations

1 hr
French term (edited): Nb F (abbreviation meaning)

Nombre famille (family members)

Educated guess.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Emmanuella : Donc la mère ou le père + l'élève ? Les parents + l'élève ça fait 3 ...
5 hrs
Parents + children?

3 days 3 hrs

No. of children in family

It can't be anything else.

I've translated quite a few transcripts of Bac results from various parts of Africa and I've never seen this term before (at least in this abbreviated form), hence my hesitancy.

Perhaps, also, for cultural reasons, the "order" of the person in the children is significant, like the way the first male child in Ireland (in Catholic families) always was supposed to go into priesthood.

Significant for other reasons relating to education too, I'm sure (finance,etc.).
