Acronym/abbreviation, then?
A "designatory letters" - may bring to mind -- "desygnaty".
Letters patent derive their name from the fact that, as Sir William Blackstone said, “they are not sealed up, but exposed to view, with the great seal pendant at the bottom, and are usually addressed by the sovereign to all the subjects of the realm.” They derive their authority from being issued under the great seal.
Otherwise, I'm wrong!
