Glossary entry (derived from question below)
English translation:
by shouting so loud it would have been enough to wake the dead
Merci Beaucoup,
Barbara

: Like Verginia, I'd tweak it and use a verb: by shouting loud enough to wake the dead

: I think this sounds odd. It's not so much about the loudness as the spine-chilling rage, hence 'effrayer'.

piercing
I don't think "piercing" would work too well in this instance, since "piercing screams" are more like what one hears coming from someone who is being tortured and about to be killed. But thanks, anyway. |
with menacing/raging/intimidatory shouts
"Waking the dead" sounds a tad too extreme imo

It may sound better to use a verb construction here e.g. ....and went into a raging tirade of shouting

shouts that would terrify (the spirits of) the dead
echoing cries of anger // cries that burned with an echoing rage
"vented his anger with echoing cries of anger/rage"
"vented his anger with cries burning of an echoing rage"
Or something like that....just ideas but can be played around with.

Reunion
It came accompanied by three curators and Minister Bonnard himself, who astonished everyone by saying that the altar could only go to Germany as a personal gift from Marshal Pétain to Reichsmarschall Goering, just what the latter wished to avoid.
From the anteroom the waiting curators could hear Goering's screams of rage and accusations, quite true, of obstruction by the French museum administration."
