Because harmonics can have negative effects on businesses and their applications, it’s critical to select equipment based on its power quality performance, and harmonics in particular. This also applies to drives that are installed to substantially increase process efficiency. Some drive technologies can introduce significant harmonic content to the network, resulting in poor network efficiency and reliability. To overcome harmonics, additional filtering is required, which can have its own negative effect on the network, like increased losses and poor performance at partial loads.
Another solution is to apply drives that simply do not generate harmonics in the first place. The ultra-low harmonic (ULH) drives are based on active front end technology with DC bus capacitors...

IGBTs are devices whose switching is controlled electronically — hence the term “active” front end. The active front end monitors the input current waveform and shapes it to be sinusoidal, reducing total harmonic distortion (THD) to 5 percent or less.
Там приведены схемы и видно, что в выпрямителе диоды или тиристоры заменены на транзисторные полностью управляемые силовые ключи (которые можно открывать и закрывать в любой момент времени). Тут принципиально исопльзование транзисторных выпрямителей, т.к. тиристорные выпрямители тоже управляемые, но обычный тиристор нельзя закрыть в любой момент времени.

И еще, DC bus в приводе - это звено посттоянного тока (НЕ шина!)
