твоя – не твоя

Russian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
From a short story. The father is confronting the young man who got his daughter pregnant. I'm not quite sure why the young man says "Внучка" instead of "дочка", maybe to be even more insulting.

“Катись от меня старый козёл. Внучка твоя, твоя – не твоя, сама поблядушка ко мне лезла, и не знаю, от меня ли она залетела.”

It's a mistake! I asked the author what exactly he means here, and he realised that he'd made a mistake. It should be "дочка" instead of "Внучка." Then it all becomes clear because she's actually his step-daughter.

@Katya Kesten We don't know what he said exactly, he just wanted to confront ("объясниться") the guy who got his daughter pregnant.

What exactly does the older man say to the young man before he responds the way does? Can you post it here so we can see the facts, layers, style, and implications?

You can use "grandkid," instead of "granddaughter," but I'm not sure I understand what you're dealing with on your end yet.

Additional context At this stage in the story, there is no way of knowing the sex of the child his daughter is carrying. It's early enough to have an abortion, but she decides to keep the baby, who's a boy.

or whoever she is to you

that slutty grand-kid of yours, or whoever she is to you, was the one that hit on me first (kind of long, I know; and the word 'daughter' is a horrible choice when you have to juggle it around like you can do in Russian, the English one has zero flexibility)

another somewhat shorter one: That slutty bitch (is she your grand-kid or whatever?) was the one... etc.

your granddaughter...

Maybe he's implying "like mother like daughter"? Like he's telling the father that the baby his daughter is carrying may not actually be his granddaughter because his daughter is a woman of loose character, so maybe her mother lied about the older man being the father of his daughter as well.

It depends on how you translate everything he's saying, but there are a lot of options:
your "granddaughter" isn't actually your granddaughter
your "granddaughter" isn't yours
your granddaughter isn't actually yours

But, I'd really consider moving away from direct translation and adding" probably": "your granddaughter's probably not even your granddaughter"

Or, "she's probably not even your granddaughter"

It really depends on how you adapt his style/rhythm, but I'd probably do something like:

"Screw you, old man. Your granddaughter’s probably not even your granddaughter! That whore came onto me hard--I doubt the baby’s even mine."

I just think it's really important to clarify what's actually being communicated here rather than try to do a direct translation. Then again, this was a super quick go at it and, maybe, you can come up with something that preserves the syntax if you thought on it longer.

(whether) yours or not

He is insulting the old man by implying that he is old enough to be the girl's grandfather. Also, he does not care whether she is or is not his (grand)daughter): "I don't care whether she is yours or not."

whatever

I would depict this one not literally,
Your granddaughter. Whatever (whatever she is)

If unknown, then grandchild or grandkid

to keep the style in the original,
It is even better to render using the word "grandbaby".
I think in Russian, the speaker is trying to say that the old man's daughter is still grandbaby or very young in his eyes. But in fact, she is not. She is not innocent as well in this cituation.

And I would not use "whoever", I believe "whatever" itself gives what we want.

If we say "whoever" it is more direct and the tone and style would be somewhat different.
