Estoy buscando una definición y traducción de este concepto: "give lee". No he encontrado nada acerca de esta expresión en concreto, sólo de "leeward", pero teniendo en cuenta el contexto, no creo que sea esa la definición.

A crew tender vessel (CTV) was being used for personnel transfers.
A pilot ladder was used, rigged port side aft, around 1.5m (5ft) above the waterline.
The anchored vessel was using the azimuth thruster to create lee for the CTV coming alongside.
During the transfer, there was a power blackout and the azimuth thruster stopped working.
It was decided to continue the transfer operation.
A worker stepped over from the CTV to the pilot ladder when the CTV rolled to port, away from the pilot ladder.
This unbalanced the worker, who fell into the sea. He was rescued unharmed.

Socaire is the term for the sheltered area created by a natural, or as in this case, artificial object. A vessel may anchor al socaire de un cabo, in the lee of a cape, to wait for better weather before passing the cape.
When the pilot (el práctico) boards a ship that is entering harbour, he does so in the lee -al socaire- of the vessel. In rescue or boarding operations, or to allow a vessel to make running repairs, another vessel may create a lee (dar socaire) for the damaged one. The sheltered area usually reaches a distance of about one and a half waterline lengths of the sheltering vessel.

dar sotavento
"Lee" or "leewards" means "a sotavento", in this case is about "give lee" which means that the vessel maneuvers in order to let the wind come from the opposite side of the vessel (port or starboard). This is a common expression in the maritime terminology and particularly, very common when related to pilot boats or any other vessel approaching another one, for a particular maneuver alongside. Did that kind of maneuvers for 8 years!
