dispositif à réseau électrique arborescent

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng in a patent

chris collister Jun 27, 2021:
@ Johannes Oddly enough, I do know what dendritic means. The thing is, this "réseau électrique" is described as "arborescent", which means "tree-like", as per your (1.) definition of dendritic. The phrase in question could certainly be translated as "tree-like", but dendritic is neater, IMO. As I understand it, this dendritic structure is a network of branching electrical conductors woven into the fabric, and can be used to connect a variety of low power devices and components, or even sensors and piezo microgenerators.
As an aside, a high energy spark discharged into a block of perspex will produce a wonderfully intricate and beautiful dendritic structure.
Kim Metzger Jun 27, 2021:
Dendritic is appropriate In the search for clothlike wearable energy-storage devices with both high energy density and high power density, metal fibers surrounded by micro metal dendrites, as current collectors, are either rooted inside a thick layer of carbon particles or wrapped with flowerlike nano NiO in a similar manner to the root or stem system of natural plants, to form dendritic cablelike negative or positive electrodes. These dendritic cable electrodes could be further combined or woven into flexible solid-type supercapacitive garland or fabric, together with cotton wires.

Dendritic is'nt appropriate to woven fabrics, garments and electricity. It's used mainly in sciences like mineralogy and anatomy. See:

@ Phil So did I. The only relevant part is halfway down the page where the abstract talks about "The garment design process for smart clothing". Further up the page, discussion of microgrids has nothing to do with clothing.

I've checked the article, and it's about something completely unrelated.

philgoddard Jun 23, 2021:
Dendritic is good.
chris collister Jun 23, 2021:
Er, no! This is for "smart" clothing, e.g. clothing that may use piezo voltage generators or sensors of one sort or another, or luminescent displays. "Power grid" implies kilowatts, rather than the micro or milliwatts involved here. I would ignore "arborescent", though "dendritic" might work well in this context.
Mimita SWI (asker) Jun 23, 2021:
could that be "tree-based power grid"
philgoddard Jun 23, 2021:
All the hits I found for 'arborescent' were translations, though that doesn't make them wrong. You could say 'branching'. But I don't do patents - is there a standard translation for 'dispositif'? Device?

neutral Tony M : Personally, I'd avoid this word order, not least because of the potential ambiguity; I'd prefer something like 'electrical networking using a dendritic structure'

disagree Johannes Gleim : You should better use common terms like 'arborescent', tree-like, or similar. 'dendritic' is off the subject.

electrical tree network system/structure

'dendritic‘ isn’t appropriate for electrical networks, even if it resembles a star-bus or tree-like network.

DENDRITIQUE, adj.

:
A crystal dendrite is a crystal that develops with a typical multi-branching tree-like form. Dendritic crystal growth is very common and illustrated by snowflake formation and frost patterns on a window. Dendritic crystallization forms a natural fractal pattern.

The lithium atoms that shuttle between the electrodes tended to build tree-like filaments called dendrites on the electrode surfaces, eventually shorting the battery and igniting the flammable electrolyte.

It’s better to use the well-established terms 'star-like or tree like' in electrical subjects and yarn:

A tree network, or star-bus network, is a hybrid network topology in which star networks are interconnected via bus networks.[1][2] Tree networks are hierarchical, and each node can have an arbitrary number of child nodes.

As the distance from the substation grows, the fanout continues as smaller laterals spread out to cover areas missed by the feeders. This tree-like structure grows outward from the substation, but for reliability reasons, usually contains at least one unused backup connection to a nearby substation.
