Spanish term

ciclo laboral

Spanish to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
This is from an article that describes changes in working patterns - in particular the fact that older people are working for more years, and retiring later, as life expectancy increases.

"Por otro lado, se inclina por lograr una mejor adaptación del ciclo laboral al ciclo vital aprovechando "más y mejor" los conocimientos y habilidades de la población más senior."

Any slick suggestions, please?

Many thanks

Am closing without grading I realise closing without grading is controversial but please bear in mind that I am the one working on this translation and I understand what they are trying to say. I'm very sure it is not "work cycle".

What they are talking about is aligning the age at which people retire ("ciclo laboral") with rising life expectancy ("ciclo vital"). So, as life expectancy goes up, so retirement ages need to rise too.

Thanks for everyone's help in getting me there.

@Comunican :-)

@Domini Yes, thank you, I'm very well aware of the PC orthodoxy/ideology and go to great lengths to try to tread a careful line between "falling foul of it" and "pandering to it" ;-)
Domini Lucas Jun 18, 2021:
@Comunican Ok! Glad to have been of some help. I assume you know to use senior citizens or older adults? As opposed to old which is very non-PC. Depending on how you turn the sentence of course. You may not need either. Just a word to the wise on the off chance that you don't already know. I didn't before being involved in caring for senior citizens. If you don't need me to dig further, buenas noches and stay well. :-)

@Domini Lucas I think "Working Life" is good, thank you.
Domini Lucas Jun 18, 2021:
@Comunican How kind of you! Here's another link that might be of interest. https://www.yourlifechoices.com.au/work/older-workers-can-of... 4th paragraph from the end: "Welfare support for parents and carers, especially the elder care that many older workers are involved in, allows workers to continue their careers more sustainably at different life stages, without forced exits or excessive interruptions." Sorry still researching rather than giving a suggestion. Ageing and allied subjects are one of my specialisms so these "little grey cells" are buzzing just now. Well, the cells are not that grey. Just the odd grey hair...

Thank you very much Domini Lucas (what a great name, by the way!)
Domini Lucas Jun 18, 2021:
@Comunican And this just refers to extending 'working life'. Suspect you've seen it already? https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/extending-working...
Domini Lucas Jun 18, 2021:
@Comunican Yes, I also did not feel comfortable with 'work cycle'. In the first instance I've looked up some (v.) old books on 'work' and have just found "over their working lives" and "lifetime" (slightly different context as it refers to earnings, but is talking about whole of lifetime earnings over working lifetime). I know those don't do the trick, but I was just looking to see if 'work cycle' did actually appear anywhere and it hasn't so far. I'll dig around a little more just in case I find anything extra to throw into the mix that might be of use to you.
Comunican (asker) Jun 18, 2021:
"Work Cycle" won't do it for me I obviously considered "work cycle" in case it was a sociology-type term that I didn't know and I checked Google for instances, but there is nothing convincing in UK English websites. So, I'm looking for something else that conveys the sense of a normal "working life span" (ie normal ages during which people work - eg from age 18 to 65), which is what the text is referring to. Thanks.
Domini Lucas Jun 18, 2021:
@Comunican Good evening. Are you able to provide a little more context by any chance?
