This is a type of chain used for a necklace holding a gemstone pendant. I'm wary of using a literal translation, as I know jewellery terms can be quite unusual. : If you look at the definitions, a "Karreekette" has square/rectangular links while a "trace chain" has round or oval links - at least that's what Google tells me.

I was gonna say block chain and maybe originally this was the most acceptable translation. But given the current prevalent meaning of the phrase, I don't think that is going to work. Another solution in this case I believe is square chain. That doesn't mean the links are square, but in some cases just not completely round.
But see first reference below. It makes a distinction between two types of chains - kugelkette and karreekette - where kugelkette are ball chains or bead chains and karreekette it seems are everything else - presumably with the exclusion of box chains.
