English to French Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation
A slogan in a document about reaching sports goals (more precisely running).
This slogan is meant to encourage people to finish their workouts with as much energy as they had when they started.

@ Françoise I don't believe that's the idea here: I'd see it as not being content with just making your target, but rather, to keep up the pace until after you've gone through that target, and maybe carry on as long as you can each time.

Les bienfaits de l'entrainement sans vouloir se dépasser à tout prix

Une suggestion pour reprendre l'esprit du texte.
Throuht it : les bienfaits issus de l'entrainement
Not to it : ne pas atteindre intrinséquement des objectifs sportifs donc ne pas se dépasser.

neutral Tony M : I think this is in fact the opposite of the intended meaning, which I understand as being not to gasp to a stop as you reach the target, but rather, to keep on running (etc.) until you have gone past it.

I'm sure about the explanation. You could maybe find a better slogan in French with the following explanations. "A travers, pas seulement vers" sonne mieux en français et est plus proche de l'anglais, mais rend moins bien l'idée.

This is what you learn as a runner : in order to be able to run as hard as you can until the end of the race, you should run as if the goal was to go beyond the finish line. It refers to the finish line being materialized with a tape. You should run as if you wanted to go THROUGH IT (and continue running), no just run TO IT (and stop running)

Below an excerpt from the American Book "Dont Lose heart" from Mary Bethy Woll (you can search the title on Amazon) - the runner is a "she" :

"Cross the Finish Line!
At the end of her race, it is critical for the runner to think past
the finish line. If she is only running toward the finish line, she will
start slowing down when she nears it. Quite the opposite, when one
runs past the finish line, she will even throw out her chest and lean
into the tape with all her might. Many a photo finish race has been
won by these few inches!"

Ce que je comprends d'après vos explications : terminer l'entraînement avant autant de faciliter qu'au début de l'entraînement, ce qui augmente donc forcément la précision dans l'appréhension du sport.
