shrub-like décrit les chênes que les conditions (surpâturage, incendies) ont empêché d'atteindre leur taille adulte, d'où la comparaison (-like) avec des arbustes. On a d'une part les forêts qui ont été remplacées par des terres agricoles et celles (ces communities) qui végètent (sans mauvais jeu de mots).
