Our Saboteurs act as strengths on a good day but they are also the behaviours that undermine us on a bad day, under stress and under pressure.

Saboteurs start off as our guardians to help us survive the real and imagined threats we face as children.

So, let’s have a look now at the nine saboteurs:
- the stickler
- the pleaser
- the hyper vigilant
- the restless
- the controller
- the avoider
- the hyper achiever
- the victim
- the hyper rational

The stickler:

So what are some of his characteristics? Punctual, methodical, self-restraint; works overtime to correct others’ mistakes, irritable; perfectionist

What are the thoughts that guide his behaviours? Right is right and wrong is wrong; I know the right way; if you can’t do it perfectly – don’t do it; I hate mistakes

What type of feelings does the stickler experience? Frustration and disappointment with self and others; anxious that others work is not up to par and will mess things up. Suppressed anger; self righteous and sarcastic

What lies does the stickler come up with to justify his behaviours? It is up to me to fix whatever mess up there is; I know the right way; if I am not perfect, I will be fired, unloved, not good enough

So what is the impact of his behaviours on others? Demotivating; ***disempowering***, anxious with self doubt; or even resignation
