Note from asker:
Merci Cyril :) Je n'ai malheureusement aucune photo, aucun schéma :( |
I had the idea of "fossette" on the face but I was looking for a more technical word et la suggestion de Cyril me semble appropriée :) |

: It's usually just a slight indentation — same idea as the 'fossette' on a face! It's just a shallow conical 'dent' in the surface. I don't think 'alvéole' conveys the right idea here — to me it 'alvéole' suggests the notion of pattern of specific holes.

But 'dimple' is very specific in EN too! It is not usually a neatly machined precise housing, for example, but just some kind of non-precision indentation sufficient for locating soemthing with the required degree of accuracy.

Discussion
Merci beaucoup Althea
According to this API document about, "Centrifugal Pumps for Petroleum, Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries", page 49 states
"All bearing housings shall be dimpled at the locations shown on Figures 27 and 28 to facilitate consistent vibration measurements. The dimples shall be suitable for accurate location of a hand-held vibration transducer with an extension “wand”. Dimples shall be either cast or machined and shall be nominally 2 mm (0,080 in) deep with an included angle of 120°."
Pages 40 and 41 have diagrams of the dimples and also for the optional arrangement for mounting vibration-measuring equipment
