In this context I would use 'aviador' because it does not specifically have a military connotation. If the the wingman is specifically an assistant to the main pilot than you could also use "copiloto" or "aviador auxiliar". If the wingman acts more like a flight engineer then "ingeniero de vuelo" could also work, though this term is more often used for large aircraft.
