Spanish term

al bíes

Spanish to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion dresses
Description of a high-fashion dress:
Normalmente, todos los soportes de seda se unen con costura mediante líneas de restauración; sin embargo, en este caso, para que coincidan ambos tejidos y no creen tensiones, las costuras deberán seguir el ligamento, aunque colocadas a distancias irregulares para coincidir con la caída natural del crepé ***al biés***
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): Rachel Fell, Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

And "al bíes" is back: "Consta de doce piezas **al bies**, ocho de ellas completan el cuerpo y cuatro la falda, junto con la cola con extremo redondeado"

bias-cut

The bias grain of a piece of woven fabric, usually referred to simply as "the bias", is any grain that falls between the straight and cross grains.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grain_(textile)

The Bias Cut is a special way of cutting the fabric, when patterns are placed on diagonal direction of the material, which allows cut out pieces to be stretchy in both directions: vertical and horizontal.
It creates effect of seamless flow along the body, beautiful soft draping and flatters every type of figure.

diagonal

I'd normal agree with "bias cut," but since here we're talking about how the fabric falls and not how to cut the fabric, I think my solution is more accurate. We should remember that another way to say "bias cut" is "on the diagonal," and I've evoked that in my proposal. The phrase would be: "natural diagonal fall of the crepe."

bias binding

Bias tape or bias binding is a narrow strip of fabric, cut on the bias. The strip's fibers, being at 45 degrees to the length of the strip, makes it stretchier as well as more fluid and more drapeable compared to a strip that is cut on the grain. Many strips can be pieced together into a long "tape." The tape's width varies from about 1/2" to about 3" depending on applications. Bias tape is used in making piping, binding seams, finishing raw edges, etc. It is often used on the edges of quilts, placemats, and bibs, around armhole and neckline edges instead of a facing, and as a simple strap or tie for casual bags or clothing.
Example sentence:

Bias binding gives a lovely, minimal looking seam finish along a neckline (you can use it along armholes as well!) without the fuss of a facing flapping around.
