Spanish term

a punta de pincel

Spanish to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting a punta de pincel
The text is about the resotration of a stone carving. Is there a specific term for "a punta de pincel" as it keeps cropping up. Thanks

Los detalles en los ojos a punta de pincel revelan la tercera intervención mientras que la cuarta es visible a través del negro en el cabello, las cejas o el ocre en las patas de gallo y pequeñas arrugas.

Discussion

Chema Nieto Castañón Aug 9, 2020:
"Los detalles en los ojos a punta de pincel" literally conveys "details defined with the brush tip". It is true that you might find different tecniques where the brush tip is used, like the "estofado", sometimes related to policromados or golden layers, but there is nothing in this context suggesting anything other than the use of the brush tip. I do not know enough though to dilucidate whether or not "fine brushtroke" does work as an equivalent in this particular case and better than a more literal rendering.
Althea Draper Aug 9, 2020:
Shilpa's right, in that in most cases this refers to fine painting over gold. However, if this is the same piece you are translating regarding the Pórtico da Gloria, then if you look at the figures, there is no gold underlying the eye areas (https://www.spain.info/en/images/portico-gloria-santiago-com... - except for Daniel's eyebrows as he has golden locks. Everyone else has dark or grey hair, some of it detailed with gold over the top of this. So, not all the details referred to in this work are painted over/onto gold. Can you tell us if this is the Pórtico da Gloria you are referring to or another piece?

Fine brushstroke

I would translate it as 'Fine brushstroke eye details reveal..'

In the link, you'll see how they refer to such details in Van Gogh paintings (p183)
Example sentence:

To understand how Van Gogh uses fine brushstroke details to create image content

In the reference, the glossary defines this term as "Dícese de la pintura cuando la labor decorativa es ejecutada con el pincel sobre el oro."
Peer comment(s):

disagree Toni Castano : No, not in this case.
