Arabic term
النظام الإمامي الكهنوتي

Hello everyone,
Context: book chapter on Yemeni political history
ومع ذلك لا تزال لثورة فبراير أهداف ومبادئ تمثل خيار اليمنيين الذين يرون سوء الواقع الذي أفرزه الارتداد عن هذه الثورة، والمتمثل بعودة شبح النظام الإمامي الكهنوتي شمالا والنظام العصبوي الجهوي"
"السلاطيني جنوبا
I'm stuck on the term كهنوتي. All my usual sources are telling me it means 'priestly'. Seeing as we are talking about an Islamic imamate here, I'm assuming that I can't use that translation as we don't usually speak in English of Islamic priests. Is this adjective simply reinforcing the religious nature of an imamate? Would it be acceptable here to simply say 'imamate/imamah' and omit كهنوتي?
Thanks in advance!

Arabic term (edited):
الكهنوتي
Selected
Clerical/ecclesiastical
The use of the term الكهنوتي here is meant to mock the Imamis' traditional organized system of clergy. It is meant as a derogatory term, likening the Imami system to the Catholic system of organized priestly structure, although, of course, it is not that.

Comment: "I see - an ironic/derogatory usage makes sense here. Thank you!"
