German term

ein großes Stück näher bringt

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): philgoddard, Edith Kelly

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

David Hollywood Jun 1, 2020:
np and anyway "us" shouldn't be taken literally as a personification
Becca Resnik May 31, 2020:
"wouldn't be poaching would you?" *Never.* Sorry to have given that impression. Yours suggests "us" in the sense of the technology being closer to society's needs. Mine suggests "them" in the sense of the software getting closer to those goals set forth by the company. In my opinion, either one could be valid, and it depends on context we don't have here. But the two are indeed different.

brings [them] a great deal closer to

"Them" being the Oracle databases, in this case.
Peer comment(s):

agree Andreea Sepi, MCIL (X) : I think this works better in this context. The talk is of databases being brought closer to some goals, and not us, the public getting closer to something...

you never know but maybe Chris :) the never-ending story...and surely the whole point is to share ideas and come up with the best solution...after all this is a platform to bounce ideas around and it's always up to the asker to take the final decision...
