Italian term

zigrinatura o filettatura

Italian to English Medical Medical: Instruments trocars
Can someone tell me what the difference is between these two terms regarding the design of trocars? "Zigrinatura" is mainly used in my text but "filettatura" is also used and when they are differentiated like that I am not sure what other word might be used in English.

Thanks in advance!

NFtranslations May 13, 2020:
"filettatura di stabilità" isn't a threaded part for screw on. If you check online is strictly related to Trocar.

"Filettatura di stabilità" is something only for grasp surface, "threaded for grip", like knurl, but I think it doesn't mean realy "threaded" technically speaking.
A thread in mechanical engineering is like that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screw_thread
they are used to amplify force, a small torque applied to a screw can exert a large axial force on a mass.
and a knurl is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knurling
IMHO

Here is a similar example from online:
...cannula trasparente a becco di flauto e rastremata distalmente, dotata di zigrinatura o filettatura di stabilità...

I can't really share the sentences because of confidentiality

Rachel I know what a trocar is. I was asking for the context, meaning the sentence(s) containing the two words you're asking about.
Shabelula May 12, 2020:
a file (lima) is zigrinata.
a bolt or a screw (bullone, vite) are filettati, that is, made ready to host something inside (or be screwed inside something else)
NFtranslations May 12, 2020:
zigrinatura also knurled

liz askew May 12, 2020:
and could
zigrinatura =
ridged
liz askew May 12, 2020:
does filettatura have anything to do with "threaded"?
philgoddard May 12, 2020:
Could we have the context, please.

Note from asker:
Thanks Liz, no, I didn't find "knurled" either for it, though "ridging" had come to mind.
