English term

pocket chart voting

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Tippy tap/ Handwasher
Hola estimados colegas,

Como en ocasiones anteriores, el término que consulto solo aparece una vez en el texto, por lo que me di a la tarea de buscarlo en contextos similares.

Introduction
Pocket charts and participatory ranking are two useful methodologies that can help to identify differences in experiences and opinions of different groups in the community, as well as to understand the scale of a problem.

As **pocket chart voting** can be done in private, this method could be well suited for identifying the experiences women and girls or other community members have of harassment or other violence when using WASH facilities.

De antemano, gracias por su apoyo!

Pocket charts
• Assess the different practices and behaviours
in a community;
• Assess the different experiences of women,
men, girls, boys, older women and older men
– including in relation to violence (harassment,
feelings of lack of safety etc.);
• Help community members to see one another’s
opinions and preferences, to help in community
decisions on different WASH options; and
• Record and monitor participation within
projects.

Participatory ranking has been used to identify and
prioritise problems in communities, including those
linked to violence in fragile contexts.

@ Manuel You could probably read the document link provided above from Page 119 onwards. "Pocket chart voting" is clearly a type of voting procedure used. Page 120, for example describes the process for "Other examples of pocket charts
Example 1: Defecation sites".

How to use a pocket chart
A pocket chart can be set up in many different ways, depending on what the group
wants to find out. Participants are provided with tokens or slips of paper for voting.
During the voting, the pocket chart is turned away from the group so that voting is
confidential. If transparent plastic pockets are used, a blank card is placed inside each
of them. Participants then place their tokens behind this card. When all the
participants have given their information, the blank drawings are removed so that
the distribution of the tokens is visible.

Okay Manuel, just starting to research to see what a pocket chart really is all about: Here:

A pocket chart can be made of paper, plastic, cloth, or with jars. If made of paper,
plastic or cloth, the most practical size to use is l-l.5 metres square (3-@/z ft). A
pocket chart of this size can easily be rolled or folded for transporting from one
meeting place to another.

Manuel Aburto (asker) May 8, 2020:
My mistake Taña, I forgot to erase the "Tippy tap/Handwasher" part.
Manuel Aburto (asker) May 8, 2020:
Hi Taña,

Good question!

Actually, the term is part of the same document, but actually it is not related to any of both terms. The text is about good handwashing practices as shown below:

Good handwashing Practices

Introduction
Methods were described for looking at existing hand-washing practices in the two previous sections. This used **pocket chart voting**. The results of those sessions can be used as a starting point for discussions on what changes people feel should be introduced

To get participants to identify what is wrong with their present practices and in what ways they wish to change them.

Method
- Review what was found in previous discussions on what people do at present.
-Ask people to decide what they would like to be the most acceptable practice in terms of WHEN and HOW hands should be washed. This will require a repeat of the previous ‘blind’ voting, using the same posters, but asking for voting on how people feel they should act in future
Taña Dalglish May 8, 2020:
@ Manuel Tell me something before we all start hunting all over the place, is this section dealing with the Tippy Tap handwasher or is this a different apparatus being described here? You have "Tippy Tap /Handwasher" as the caption! LOL! You know why I am asking this! Regards.
