The Client shall be entitled to deduct the costs incurred by the Contractor in the case of any instalment payments.

I'm not sure about instalment payments here - because it doesn't say anything about who made those payments.

AG / Auftraggeber vs. AN / Auftragnehmer Likelier, Alexander, to be Auftraggeber (Client) and Auftragnehmer (Independent Contractor) than a master-servant (archaic BrE)/ employer-employee relationship of an Arbeitgeber vs. Arbeitnehmer - a routine ProZ mix-up. So the asker's translation is traditionally right.

Cillie The translation included in your request is wrong. AG = Arbeitgeber => employer and AN = Arbeitnehmer => employee. This should be reflected in your translation.

Payments made /as and when/ building stages are completed to sign-off of *interim* completion certificates (should ring bells with those of us with practical experience and relatives in the building trade) and *out of which Sicherheitseinbehalte* are made, namely retention moneys withheld as security.

Especially to an employer /(AG) employee (AN) arrangement, the preferred term would have to be "advance payments".

agree Alexander Schleber (X) : Yes, a payment in advance of the invoice or agreed price, which will be deducted from the final amount. It is similar to "down payment", which is an initial payment on something bought on credit.
