There is a difference between "to get the best out of somebody" and "to make the most of something." There is yet another expression that is very similar and could be confusing to some people, "to get the better of somebody." These are all different, and when the context is there, we may have even more subtle differences. But here, the case is pretty clear to a good number of respondents.
