Spanish term

cupón

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Investment / Securities investment forecasts
From an investment management report:

"[...] podría acelerar los flujos de inversión hacia crédito de grado de inversión a plazos medios y largos, ya que cuentan con mayor cupón”

Any ideas?

Discussion

The concept is that investors would buy bonds with larger coupons as yields turn negative on sovereign debt
MJ Barber (asker) Aug 2, 2019:
@james I think that what has the "mayor cupón" is the "plazos medios y largos"??? but not really understanding the concept.
philgoddard Aug 2, 2019:
We've had this term many times before.
MJ Barber (asker) Aug 2, 2019:
the thing that could "hasten" is "la vuelta al terreno negativo de la deuda soberana de máxima calidad, en particular del Bund alemán", so the full sentence is : la vuelta al terreno negativo de la deuda soberana de máxima calidad, en particular del Bund alemán, “podría acelerar los flujos de inversión hacia crédito de grado de inversión a plazos medios y largos, ya que cuentan con mayor cupón”.
James A. Walsh Aug 2, 2019:
@MJ What comes before "podría acelerar"? As these are the actual thing that "cuentan con mayor cupón”, so it would be helpful to know...

coupon

Hablando de "flujos de inversión hacia crédito de grado de inversión a plazos medios y largos" se trata de el cupon que se paga.

bond interest or scrip dividend

con or sin cupón > cum- or ex-dividend for co. shares or interest on company debentures.

The 'coupon' is usually a detachable warrant that the debenture- or bondholder alt. a share-/ stockholder can present to a company for redemption to to cash in the (deb.) interest or (share) dividend.

Example sentence:

scrip (subscription); e.g. a scrip or bonus issue > FINANCE, STOCK MARKET extra shares that are given to shareholders in a company instead of a cash dividend: They pay dividends largely in scrip.

scrip dividend: a provisional certificate issued (at the option of individual stock/shareholders) by a firm strapped for cash (but having adequate retained earnings) in lieu of cash dividend.
