Buenos días,

Tengo una consulta con el texto a continuación:

Se propone que dichas herramientas y lineamientos sean implementados por la Organización y sus contrapartes para que los conocimientos generados, contribuyan a una toma de decisiones oportuna y congruente con el principio del interés superior de la comunidad.

Traducción
It is proposed that these tools and guidelines be used by the Organization and its partners so that generated knowledge will contribute to timely decision making and consistent with the principle of the best interest of the community.

Mi consulta es porque al traducir " toma de decisiones oportuna y congruente" logro encontrar una forma en que ambos adjetivos queden juntos modificando a "toma de decisiones". Me da la impresión que de la forma en que lo traduje quedan como dos ideas aisladas, no?

PS: Me estoy aventurando a traducir "contrapartes" como "partners" considerando el contexto de las ONG.

Spanish term (edited): (a una toma de decisiones) oportuna y congruente (con)
Selected

(a decision-making process) that is timely and consistent (chimes) with

con el principio del interés superior... - with the principle of the paramount interest (singular) or the best interest*s* (plural) of the ...

Si, dos ideas aisladas, though - from a stylistic point of view - can both be added to the decision-making phrase.

Part of the problem is that oportuna translates both as timely and appropriate or, literally, opportune - and also expedient of an administrative decision (Tom West III's ES/EN dictionary).

If the word of process or 'a way of' is added, then timely may not be the best choice.

Congruence in English is originally a mathematical or geometrical concept.
Peer comment(s):

agree Muriel Vasconcellos : That was my thought when I saw the question. But 'chimes with' is definitely UK English that I wouldn't use.

Muito obrigado! I was also toying with the idea of 'dovetailing' (synchronise) for oportuna but perceived an overlap in meaning with the 'congruente con' part - and decided it was either non-US/Belize or not my 'pigeon'.

Spanish term (edited): una toma de decisiones oportuna y congruente con el principio del interés superior de la comunidad.

timely decision-making that reflects the best interests of the community.

A concise translation that accurately reflects the original in idiomatic English.

Alternatively:

“that is consistent with” instead of “that reflects”

“Decision-making” should be hyphenated.
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Oportuno can also mean appropriate, not that it matters. And a hyphen isn't necessary unless the phrase is used as a qualifier, eg "decision-making skills".

Thank you, Phil. The hyphenated form - even when the term is used as a noun - seems to be more common these days in the US, and seems preferable to me.
