French term

charbonnage

French to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals
I am at a loss as to what this could mean in the following context. Obviously it has nothing to do with coal mining!

It involves the manual inspection of drug ampoules.

charring

Charring is one of the defect that can be found in glass ampoules. It is caused by the presence of organic material that chars when the ampoule is sealed by heating and melting the glass: https://books.google.ca/books?id=iymDmLrB-34C&pg=PA180&lpg=P...
Tests are carried out (by machine) to detect charring: https://www.indiamart.com/proddetail/ampoule-inspection-mach...
