I am looking for a good translation (British English, but the translation is for Namibia) for "Berittführer". If there is no equivalent, I will need a meaningful translation with a footnote.
Here is what it is:

Berittführer
Berittführer. Als Berittführer sind Sie in der Lage, eine Reitgruppe im Straßenverkehr und im Gelände fachgerecht zu führen. Die nächste Stufe ist der Wanderreitführer. Als solcher können Sie mehrtägige Wanderritte und auf der Einstiegsebene Wander- und Distanzreitwettbewerbe vorbereiten.

Both should be long distance. I don't really like guide, leader, etc., because the qualification is more about care/protection of the horses, riders and environment than giving tours or leading a mounted army unit. I see it often in "scary quotes."

I like "Trail Boss" (in general, not for this particular case).

Die FN bietet mit dem Reiterpass und dem Berittführer Lehrgänge, die primär auf sicheres Reiten im Gelände gerichtet sind, an. Als weiterführende Abzeichen gibt es Wanderreiten Stufe 1 und 2 sowie den Wanderreitführer. Bei den Trainerlehrgängen kann man u. a. auch den Schwerpunkt Wanderreiten wählen.

At its essence, it's just a proof of confidence in riding outside of an artificially created environment (ring, course). It is worth mentioning that Berittführer are especially suited to guide or assist mounted tours.

This is nothing to do with training. It's a person who guides groups of possibly experienced riders. Several of Alison's references say "ride leader".

Comparing qualifications from different countries is tricky. Based on the descriptions given here http://www.fuchsenhof.de/download/Trainer_Reiten.pdf (pp. 4 and 6-7) and here http://www.fuchsenhof.de/berittfuehrer.html I would say that Ride leader and Trek leader are probably the closest equivalents to Beritt- and Wanderreitführer.

You haven't asked about Wanderreitführer, but you could say something like "horseback expedition leader".
Example sentence:

Depending on the activity scope, the person may need Horse Trail Riding Guide qualifications.
