grandissimo formaggi

English to Italian Art/Literary Textiles / Clothing / Fashion fashion
Si tratta di un articolo che descrive la sfilata di un noto stilista italiano.
Grandissimo formaggi appare in corsivo e credo significhi 'pezzi grossi, personaggi importanti. Any suggestions??

Grazie a tutti.

This time, the around-the-corner Oscars might have cramped Mr. XY's front-row style, with nary a current-generation starlet in sight. (Not that Sophia Loren and Claudia Clardinale, who did show, aren’t grandissimo formaggi themselves.) But it did nothing to squelch his yearning for glamour, and he delivered plenty, both in beautifully embellished oddball deb dresses and dazzling va-voom gowns.

Just the meaning I am translating from Engl to Ital but this amusing expression is in the source Engl text. I assume it meams bigwigs, or big chees as Giuliana suggests.
Thanks

Potresti metterlo così... oppure super-vips, mega-vips etc. etc.
Just a suggestion

VIP
