PS: If for some reason you feel you really need to use a double-barrelled term like the original, you could use "grade levelling" or "gradient levelling"...

neutral Neil Ashby : I don't quite follow, why level a gradient? Isn't it supposed to have a specific slope? Isn't "gradient levelling" an oxymoron? Just want to learn, not question.
