German term

Konversch. Ehe

German to English Bus/Financial Law: Taxation & Customs Financial reporting
In the printout of the electronic employment tax statement for a company:
"Einbehaltene Kirchensteuer des Ehegatten von 3. (nur bei konversch. Ehe)"
I am not sure what "Konversch." is short for?

Discussion

AllegroTrans Dec 7, 2017:
I may be wrong but whoever has entered this into the glossary seems to be confusing "mixed religion" and "interdenominational". The first would for example, be a Christian-Hindu mixed marriage whilst the second would be a marriage between two Christians of different denominations (e.g. Roman Catholic-Evangelical).
Perhaps the glossary entry need to be corrected?

neutral AllegroTrans : How does "Konvers" transliterate to "Konfession"? Doesn't it mean opposite/different? // well I think you have made an assumption

I think poorly written German, the context works

interdenominational marriage

If we are talking about the marriage of a Roman Catholic and a Protestant, then the two are not of different religions (both are Christians), but they are of different denominations within the Christian faith.

If if refers to people who really are of different religions (e.g. a Christian and a Muslim), then I would call it an interfaith marriage.
Peer comment(s):

agree Steffen Walter : Good point. In the stricter sense, 'konfessionsverschieden' seems to refer exclusively to different denominations within the Christian faith. See, for example, http://www.steuernetz.de/aav_steuernetz/lexikon/K-15303.xhtm...

Precisely - I started both parts of my explanation with "if", so you could simply have ageed with me.
