Muriel Vasconcellos Nov 10, 2017:
@ All It just sounds too forced to specifically say "tour" in English. If it's an artist, it would be implicit. It sounds like something an L2 learner would say. If I knew a performer and was wondering when they were coming to my country I know I would never use 'tour'.
All the more so if the dialogue is on Facebook.
Helena Chavarria Nov 10, 2017:
Artist(e)s definitely go on tour. I know because I used to be a professional dancer and I have always been very interested in the performing arts.

CATS ON TOUR

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking 2015 Olivier award nominated musical CATS comes to a city near you direct from its sell-out seasons at the London Palladium.

And then one day while dancing on tour, I was singing and the artist overheard me and complimented me on my voice!

go on tour
[for a performing group] to go from place to place, performing. Our play went on tour across the state. If we make the play a success, we will go on tour.

So when are you coming to Argentina?

This is what I would expect.
Peer comment(s):

agree Muriel Vasconcellos : I like the 'So...' "Gira" isn't all that specific, IMO; I don't think it needs to be spelled out.

My sentiments exactly, Muriel. Thanks!
agree Jennifer Levey : Yes - but you are assuming the person asking the question is in Argentina. This is not apparent from the minimal context given by rusito. If the person asking the question is, for example, in Alaska, replace "coming" by "going".

Good point. Thanks, Robin.
neutral AllegroTrans : You are assuming the person asking the question is in Argentina; this is not even implied in the ST

Well my assumption was based on the fact that the asker is in Argentina, and entered "facebook" into the write-in field (above), so presumably the asker wants to ask an English-speaking singer when he/she is coming to Argentina (in English) on facebook.
agree Yvonne Gallagher : With Muriel. I assume this too given the bit about FB. This sounds the most natural and idiomatic

Thanks, Gallagy.

When are you going to travel around Argentina?

Una opción.

When are you off on your tour of Argentina

Another option.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Jennifer Levey : This assumes the person asking the question is not in Argentina. And giro is not necessarily a tour - it could refer to a simple one-day visit to Córdoba, for example.

Thank you, AT!
agree Helena Chavarria : Or 'When are you planning on touring Argentina?'

Yes Helen. Thank you. Artists tour.
neutral Muriel Vasconcellos : Too much emphasis on 'tour" IMO. Even if it is a tour, it would be implicit and mentioning it sounds unnatural in English to be so specific.

If a singer is being asked the question, it can only refer to tour dates.
neutral Jennifer Levey : With Muriel - giro is a visit, not necessarily a tour.

With this phrasing, asked of a singer, it is a tour, not a visit/ and the word is gira, not giro..

Thank you!
agree Robert Carter : Yes, I think it means tour dates too, although "when are you coming to Argentina", though less specific, would also mean this when asked of a singer. You were first though.

Thanks Robert. Obviously, the answer given would mean the same, but I was translating the question as asked.
