French term

substantif

French to English Medical Medical: Instruments my best guess re: category
This is showing up in translations of service reports for medical imaging equipment. I have never seen substantif mean anything but 'noun' and I am lost. Any help would be appreciated.

Recherche de la cause de la panne en suivant le trouble shooting test . Réalisation d'un Devis pour remplacement du une Rx. Nettoyage des filtres et du générateur . Mise à niveau du liquide de refroidissement. Installation du filtre sur le collimateur. Préparation substantif pour le remplacement du tube .

Remplacement du câble haute tension . Recapotage complet substantif et du générateur .

for someone who is the business of maintaining this equipment you could put practically anything and they would still know what to do and which is the correct term that should've been used.

failing that [finding s.o. like that]... a fairly reasonable assumption would be "substitute" i.e. "preparing the new parts" that are going to be substituted / put in place instead of old parts.

extensive=substantial - see ref comm

@ Asker Although not at all in this specific fields, I have seen 'substantif' used as an adjective in this way, with (at least empirically!) the meaning 'substantial', in its basic sense of 'having substance', rather than in the commoner extended sense of 'considerable'; so probably closer to 'significatif' in FR than 'important' (though in this usage, both could be considered as similar).

re: substitut I have a massive TM (contributed to weekly by several translators for this client over at least the last 6 years) and neither substitut nor substantif appears in it even once :-/ if i were meant to be substitut, it would have shown up somewhere in the TM, I'd think.

Could be a typo for substitut as in et de medecine nucleaire - European Commission

remplacement de l'équipement, rénovation) ou pour définir les conditions ... matériel et une protection radiologique adaptée pour le personnel qui doit se tenir à .... Pour une tension de tube fixée, la différence maximale de densité optique dans ... surface d'un substitut de patient (par exemple fantôme en PMMA de 25 cm) ...

@DrManu49 This is the text as it is, type in French. There's often a lot of garbled nonsensical stuff in these reports that I have figured out over the years, but this is new. If it just isn't used this way, then I'll assume it's another bizarre quirk from this client. But I was wondering if I was missing something.
Drmanu49 Oct 3, 2017:
Was this a translated text or a handwritten one? I have never seen substantif used this way.
